Central City Lutheran Mission (CCLM) has been chosen to receive the Kaiser Permanente National HIV/AIDS Diversity Award. This highly prestigious award within the Kaiser Permanente system includes $10,000. Kaiser Permanente flew Rev. David Kalke to San Francisco on November 5th to receive the award as part of their national 3-day conference on diversity and diversity training.
Kaiser Permanente-Fontana has partnered with the Mission for a number of years in its unique and cutting edge work with HIV+ homeless persons. This fund will enable CCLM to leverage more funds within the private foundation sector and make it less dependent upon government sources. It also affirms the work of CCLM in the community as it works with HIV+ homeless persons. Community-based healthcare education projects help keep local clinics focused on neighborhood realities and needs. The model developed by CCLM to link community healthcare education with its clinic is a good model with growing recognition nationwide.
